Dimitri Sandler est photographe et docteur en philosophie de l’Université de Strasbourg. C'est ainsi que ses travaux sur l'oeuvre de Walter Benjamin et la question de "l'image de pensée" guident sa pratique artistique vers des objets tels que le portrait, l'image d'archive, le nu ou encore la ville. Dans ce cadre, et face à la prolifération de l'image par le numérique, Dimitri Sandler fait le choix résolu de l'argentique tant pour son caractère de non reproductibilité à l'identique que pour sa capacité à créer de l'image matière.
A vingt cinq ans, il part aux Etats-Unis où il s'adonne avec succès à la peinture et au dessin, avant de revenir pleinement à la photographie ainsi qu'à la réalisation cinématographique et publicitaire en France.
Entre 2012 et 2018, il obtient plusieurs prix pour des courts-métrages documentaires :
- Astéria d'Or au festival Green Award de Deauville, section documentaire (mai 2012)
- Premier prix du festival Buzzons contre le sexisme (2017-2018) organisé par Matilda Education avec la mention spéciale « Femmes en résistance d'Arcueil »
- Premier prix de la vidéo publicitaire, Entreprendre pour apprendre (EPA) Île-de-France (2018).
En juin 2019, il expose une série de photographies intitulée Noctambules à la galerie André Lalou (75018).
En septembre 2019, il est lauréat du concours de photos publicitaire On pose pour la pause organisé par la Sécurité Routière en partenariat avec la Sanef et la Fnac.
En novembre 2019, il gagne le premier prix de la photo d'art En vacances organisé par Ilford en partenariat avec Négatif Plus.
Enfin, il reçoit une mention honorable au concours international Neutral Density Award pour la saison 2019.
