The PAP is the recognized coordinating organization representing the Philippines in international exchanges and events in the field of printmaking
The PAP is recognized by foreign artists and institutions, cultural attaches, and other art groups as the printmaking association to coordinate with for projects and programs relating to printmaking. It has hosted workshops by with foreign printmakers namely, German Master Printmaker Malte Sartorius (1989); Filipino Canadian Printmaker, Evelyn David (1990); French Lithographer John Mark Scanreigh (1992); Australian Printmaker, Jean Sanzaro (1999); Australian Lithographer, Master Printmaker, Martin King (2000); New York based Filipino Printmaker, Lenore RS Lim (2001) and Australian Printmaker, Billy Missy (2007).
A number of artists trained at the PAP workshop have been recognized in international competitions and have participated in events, exhibitions and collaborations with printmakers abroad like France, Spain, Germany, the United States and the Asia region. They were also included in international publications for such events.
Members granted with scholarships in varied specializations came to impart their new knowledge upon their return, stimulating printmakers to innovate, explore, and experiment on indigenous materials.

'UKIT', a tribute to 'MANG MANING', Father of Philippine Printmaking at the SFAD gallery of PWU opens this Friday, March 16.

involves a process of transferring an image or design from a plate (a
prepared surface) onto paper for the purpose of artistic expression.
Printmaking techniques include woodcut, wood engraving, linocut,
etching, metal engraving, collograph, serigraph, and lithograph among
others.
The PAP in its four decades of existence continues to bring art to the
people with its multi-original prints, exhibiting and holding
workshops to promote the art form and subsequently to democratize art.
It was founded in 1968 through the pioneering efforts of Manuel
Rodriguez, Sr., along with Adiel Arevalo and other printmakers he
mentored. It has since become the prime mover of graphic arts in the
country. For almost forty years, the association has devoted itself to
the promotion of printmaking and bringing art to the people. Its
programs include the continuous training of members, regular
exhibitions, annual competitions, outreach workshops and lectures, and
hosting of exchange programs with international visiting artists.
From its ranks, the Philippines was represented in international
exhibitions, competitions, biennales and triennials. In 2001, it was
conferred the Dangal ng Haraya Lifetime Achievement Award for Cultural
Promotions by the National Commission for Culture and the Arts.

The studio
Foremost in its service to the art community is the maintenance of a studio-workshop
In 1992, the PAP workshop/studio moved to its present location, a 100 square meters area at the rear of the Folk Arts Theater in CCP Complex provided by the CCP. It houses printmaking facilities (etching press, lithography press and other materials) for the use of artists. It is not only where artists produce their edition of prints but also serves as the venue for training, print demos of different techniques, workshops by local and foreign master printmakers, talks and interactions.
