This shape, which vaguely evokes a face or a mask, appears as a dark, dense mass, crossed by horizontal lines that suggest an internal, almost architectural structure. The dominant element is the insertion of an acid green area, geometrically defined but painted with a vigorous gesture, which diagonally crosses the composition, creating a focal point of extraordinary visual tension. The painting technique reveals a conscious dialectic between control and abandonment: the sign is at times meditated, at times impulsive, with brushstrokes that vary between precise linear articulation and freer and more material application. Particularly significant is the way in which Cantù Gentili creates a surface rich in texture, where the color is not just dye but becomes pulsating matter. The artist's language fits into that line of research that, starting from the informal, recovers structural and almost archetypal elements, merging expressionist gestures with a compositional rigor that recalls certain solutions of sign painting. The reduced but intense chromatic range - dominated by the contrast between the orange of the background, the black-brown of the central shape and the acid green of the diagonal element - gives the work an immediate emotional tension. In this work, Cantù Gentili seems to investigate the boundary between identity and dissolution, between the persistence of the form and its fragmentation. The central figure appears as an entity balanced between definition and disintegration, while the linear incisions that cross it seem to simultaneously structure and disarticulate it.
