An author's illustration that reveals the inner drama of insomnia. It is not just a sleep disorder, but a resting dysfunction in which one is stuck between time, body and anxiety. The painting is divided into three scenes, each symbolising a form of sleep disorder:
On the left, a figure in an attempt to sleep, sitting on a cloud, is a longing before midnight, when the body wants sleep and the mind is overwhelmed.
The centre is the night awakenings. The exhausted character cries out to the moon as the last hope for peace.
On the right is an early awakening at 5am. The fractured pose illustrates the struggle with his own body, torn from sleep long before the world awakens.
Each fragment of the illustration is imbued with a sense of brokenness and exhaustion, a condition that accompanies chronic insomnia. The colour palette supports the emotional landscape: cold hues, visual 'noises' and the crumbling space of sleep.
