Collective Ring (2025) 绘画 由 Nmayah Kpalobi

This was a very FUN painting and the meaning behind it is so profound that it makes me be in awe anytime i reflect upon it.

As well as painting, I love to read. One quiet afternoon, I was reading a book; Living Untethered by Michael Singer (which is honestly one of the best books I have ever read in terms of really getting to know, love myself and do the inner self work, thank you Michael Singer!).

In this book, he describes the origins of matter itself. And I know there are plenty of resources out there that explain this but this was the first time that things were clicking and was making sense to me. In fact, in the moment, I had an insight 'Ahaa' moment and I just knew it to be true.

I saw and remembered that we are all made out of stars! Now when I say stars, I specifically mean stardust. In fact, every atom of oxygen in our lungs, of carbon in our muscles, of calcium in our bones, of iron in our blood - was created inside a star before Earth was born. Every atom of your DNA is stardust. Every atom in your skin, blood and bones is stardust. Every atom of the oxygen you breathe is stardust. Everything is made out of stardust and I found that SO incredible!!

One day, I was at the seaside. I looked down and saw all these amazing and unique rocks and stones by the sea. It was like I was seeing them for the first time even though I had been to the seaside a couple of time before that. I was mesmerised by their different shapes, colors, textures, sizes, contrast and more!

I didn't know at the time why I was doing it, but it felt so right in the moment. I began to go hunting for some hand picked stones. I remember crouching down and really feeling my way through to pick 9 stones that I was drawn to. I had a real adventure with this!

When I returned home and meditated, I knew exactly what i was to do with them. I was going to paint them. From the oldest (stones, rocks) to the more developed, modern and recent (skyscrapers, technology devices) creations, I saw the beauty in all.

In this painting, I wanted to depict how from the beginning of creation and time, everything we see around us is made from stardust. We as a Collective and all that we interact with are all connected by what we are all made out of. That was the reasoning behind the circle form of the rocks to represent: Unity and Connectedness. Whilst the green background represents nature.

Anytime, I stargaze at night, I remember this amazing fact and render deep felt gratitude to the stars above. I torally enjoyed this journey here. Many thanks!
