Philippe Balayn is een hedendaagse Franse beeldhouwer. Door humor, poëzie en realisme te combineren in een stijl die sterk beïnvloed is door strips, creëert Philippe Balayn unieke stukken in papier-maché. Zijn sculpturen en bas-reliëfs zijn geïnspireerd door de natuur en wat de mens ermee heeft gedaan om een vleugje optimisme in ons dagelijks leven te brengen.
De beeldhouwkunst drong zich zo'n vijftien jaar geleden op na een reis naar de Verenigde Staten en de ontmoeting met een genaturaliseerde zwaardvis. Door de combinatie van tekenuitdrukkingen en van stripverhalen tot meer klassieke sculpturen, heeft de techniek van papier-maché Philippe Balayn in staat gesteld een originele stijl te ontwikkelen. Zijn sculpturen zijn in eerste instantie geïnspireerd door de natuur en de dierenwereld in al zijn vormen. Van de levenden (marlijnen, zwaardvissen, neushoorns, nijlpaarden, katten) tot de minst levende (sardines in blik, makreel, kabeljauw).
Philippe Balayn werd geboren in 1961, in Frankrijk. Hij werd tentoongesteld in heel Frankrijk en in New York. Sinds 2008 is hij lid van Ateliers d'Art de France.
