Philippe Vautrin is een hedendaagse Franse schilder. Al op zeer jonge leeftijd begon hij te tekenen, beginnend met eenvoudige schetsen en gaandeweg tot de realisatie van die schetsen in potlood. Al snel stapte hij over op inkt en houtskool en leerde hij de verschillende Vlaamse kunststijlen kennen.
Terwijl hij zijn schilderstijl ontwikkelde, ontwikkelde hij ook een specialisatie in filmfotografie, waardoor hij zijn vaardigheden kon ontwikkelen in de fijnere details van de fluweelachtige texturen van de lichamen en kon experimenteren met de rondingen en korrels van de huid.
Vautrin's schilderijen van vrij groot formaat bevatten meestal mannelijke of vrouwelijke naakten. Zijn mixed media-werken omvatten olie op canvas, waarbij hij een methode uit de oudheid gebruikt die marouflage op linnen canvas wordt genoemd, evenals werken op papier met inkt, pastelkleuren, acryl of zelfs collagedragers.
