In this work, I portrayed a woman clad in traditional attire, standing proudly against an ornament wall wit bold, interlocking patterns, symbolizing the interconnectedness and resilience of a community. Her stance embodies both grace and strength. There is great beauty in the unknown — in the stories yet to be uncovered and the courage it takes to stand as a proud bearer of tradition. My aim was to evoke a sense of pride and continuity, offering a visual celebration of cultural identity and history.
Through oil paints, I combined geometric abstraction with expressionistic details to illustrate the vibrancy and spiritual richness of cultural heritage. The painting takes inspiration from the art of the Southern Ndebele people. Colorful garments, intricate beading, and beautifully decorated houses of the Ndebele tribe in South Africa are unique and captivating.
