Surco. Nadal Antelmo
The piece consists of a furrow of earth in which I place people, as if they were seeds that must germinate. Each person wears the same garment, and I photograph them from above, so that only the tops of their heads are visible in the images. The row of people within the furrow simulates a line of plants sprouting from the soil, all seen from an aerial perspective.
SURCO has two versions:
The first version features 7 people, printed as a photograph and displayed on the wall.
The second version includes 10 people, and the image—6 meters long—is installed directly on the floor and surrounded by real soil. In this version, the piece becomes an actual furrow of earth framing the image. When viewed from above, the viewer can truly feel the sensation of looking at a furrow filled with human seeds ready to grow.
This work has been exhibited in both versions, wall and installation, in important venues such as the Havana Biennial, Art Prize 7, MOCA Miami, Fototeca de Cuba, Havana, Red Dot Art Basel Miami, Pompano Beach Cultural Center, USA. etc
