Artist statement

Mohamed E. AZZOUG, visual artist, is born in 1973 in Algiers, Algeria. He has been drawing and modelling since his early childhood, since the age of 4. He was encouraged by an uncle who is a painter and restorer of works of art, to whom he never misses an opportunity to pay him a vibrant homage. "Delighted in the prime of life in 1982, at the age of 31, my uncle nurtured my love for art. "He went to the superior school of fine arts of Algiers” in 1993, and obtained the diploma of higher artistic studies. He participated in several national and international exhibitions.

In 2008, he won the Literary Trophy at the Algiers International Book Fair. "SILA”In 2013, he was awarded the international prize for the best foreign artist at the international art competition in Nice, France.  In 2014, he wins the silver medal of the Art Council Japan and L'Aigle de Nice international, in Saint Laurent du Var, France. He receives the international honorary prize Zervas Art Club Unesco, at the 5th art fair in Paris, France.

My work consists of observing and analysing the sociological and psychological aspect of the society in which I live. I am in search of the detail that will determine the successive contours that have been discovered in my contemporary works.

It is through my paintings, sculptures and installations that my work is striking in its particular tone.  Through expressive and contemporary forms and materials, I critically observe the cultural and psychological changes that characterize society and the world as a whole.
