Mirjam de Nijs is een hedendaagse Nederlandse beeldhouwer. Al meer dan 35 jaar maakt ze sculpturen van natuursteen. De kunstenaar is gefascineerd door de onvervalste schoonheid van de natuur. Ze is geboeid door de enorme omvang, dynamische beweging, gestructureerde oppervlakken en inherente authenticiteit die in verschillende steensoorten te vinden is. Binnen deze stenen ontdekt ze een grenzeloos potentieel om haar beoogde boodschappen over te brengen. Ze heeft een voorkeur voor abstracte uitdrukkingen, omdat ze zowel een indrukwekkende als genuanceerde aanwezigheid hebben en dienen als onverwachte elementen in een realistische setting.
