After years of study and application of Neville Goddard's teachings, I had a solid understanding of the role of consciousness in generating our lives' experiences. And yet, a question was starting to pull at me, and became relentless: To what end am I consciously molding my physical experience? I can say "I AM" anything, and have found reality reflects that thing to perfection (no matter how wanted or unwanted). But when is it enough to simply rest in I AM? No conditions, no addendums. Just BEING, in harmony with the invisible, indwelling divine.

Neville once said (more than once, actually), that you can never outgrow I AM. Or another way to put it: Wherever you go, there you are. From these ponderings, "A Promise of Gnosis" was born. She is a depiction of an eternal truth. When you no longer need the outer to change, you are finally free to come home to yourself. Back to I AM. I AM is the only real thing.

Of course, there's an irony here. Being at home within yourself sets giant changes into motion. Sometimes it feels like too much. But you can always return to I AM, where the weary find rest.

The Process:
I first photographed a piece of upholstery fabric. Then I brought that into Procreate, chose my reference model, and sketched the pose in charcoal and pencil brushes. This can be really tricky to do over a brightly colored background layer, but I persevered until I had a general feel for her pose and expression. I also added a spiral shape which I had made in app called Inspiral, warped, bent, and blended that in with the figure's hair. After warping and bending the fabric to blend more harmoniously with the figure, I finished the drawing off with pencil and airbrush details and shading.

To me, creating art is a spiritual exploration, and if I’ve succeeded, the finished piece invites the viewer to embark on an exploration of their own.

My creative journey began in childhood and was further nurtured by an inspiring teacher in middle school. Where I was self-effacing and, like most pre-teens, didn’t take my work seriously, she saw my potential. I often think of her with gratitude, as her encouragement led me to honor my artistic ability and pursue it with dedication.

Since then, my influences have ranged from the opulent mysticism of Gustav Klimt to Egon Schiele’s raw expressiveness and Maxfield Parrish’s radiant dreamscapes, which somehow possess a solidity that feels real. These artists' works reflect a belief I hold dear, shaped by the teachings of Neville Goddard: that all reality originates in consciousness. This idea is what I aim to express in my work, even in what might appear to be the most mundane portraiture. To me, nothing is mundane, and all is divine.

Over the years, I’ve evolved from working traditionally in mixed media—layering drawing, painting, and textiles, blending the tangible and the intangible—to working digitally in Procreate. Recently, I’ve begun revisiting older works kept “in the closet,” reworking and developing them digitally to create something fresh. In this way, I’m bringing both my art and myself out of hiding.
