Michael passionately paints in acrylic and oil paints, using vibrant and emotional colours, in a bold and direct style. He is especially interested and intrigued by the effect that one colour has on another and he exploits this by using many layers of colour, sometimes using areas of broken solid colour and semi-transparent glazes, applied with brushes, knives and fingers gradually building the desired effect and producing impressionistic, semi abstract and abstract paintings. He is very much inspired by the effect that the elements have on a landscape, sea or sky, and also by his Christian spirituality. His emotional response and creative imagination dictate the mood and degree of abstraction in each painting.
He has worked as a professional artist for over 35 years. As a young man he completed his formal studies achieving a diploma in fine art and design. Throughout this time, Michael has also worked as a sculptor, working in wood and is internationally known, having exhibited in the USA and throughout the UK and Europe and his work is in collections worldwide. Michael considers himself to be extremely privileged to have met and produced work for so many people around the world. Amongst many well known and famous people, two of the most notable commissions received were for Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II and Her Majesty the Queen Mother. Most recently, Prince William and Kate Middleton
