This is one of a series of works i did for a book I am self publishing on the Titanic's maiden voyage from the perspective of second and third class passengers. I decided to create a composition showing the Titanic at the start of her voyage, sailing out of Southampton Water into the Solent,an area I know very well. Many paintings of classic ships [...]
This is one of a series of works i did for a book I am self publishing on the Titanic's maiden voyage from the perspective of second and third class passengers. I decided to create a composition showing the Titanic at the start of her voyage, sailing out of Southampton Water into the Solent,an area I know very well. Many paintings of classic ships are based on a low angle of view looking up at the ship as if from sea level, however I chose an aerial view so as show something of the deck and superstructure. Starting with a pencil sketch to get the general structure, I worked over the drawing in light washes of watercolour. I then went back and drew in further details before going over certain details of the painting in acrylic.

I'm a freelance illustrator from Southampton, England. I originally trained as a medical illustrator but have since diversified to include illustration and design for education. I have experience working in this sector in Japan and Korea as well as recently in Laos in South East Asia. This genre of design and illustration for educational materials constitutes my main work.

Additionally, I have always been interested in marine art, having grown up in the Southampton/Portsmouth area of England. I'm currently working on an illustrated book about drawing the Titanic, and life onboard for 2nd and 3rd class passengers. This book contains my original drawings.  

In recent years, after an extended visit to Tahiti and the islands of Polynesia, I have completed a series of paintings of historic ships of the South Pacific, both western and Tahitian craft.  I'm interested in traditional boat building, seafaring and navigation and always interested in doing commissioned illustration work in this field.
