Mel Andrews is a contemporary, semi-abstract painter who lives and works in Palm Springs, California. A native of San Diego, his colorful paintings reflect his bright, California surroundings. The artist explains his first love has always been painting, "Something about pushing paint around on canvas, with a brush, has always appealed to me." His approach is to keep a daily diary through his paintings, by reflecting on memories, the culture, landscape, and events of the day. His paintings range from non-objective abstraction to realism. His work also tends to be minimalist, embracing the "Less-is-more" philosophy. Andrews' paintings are often infused with a touch of humor, a focus on contours, the interaction of positive and negative space, and the use of contrasting and complementary colors.
