Antigua Guatemala in Abstract (2025) 绘画 由 Mauricio Palma

Antigua Guatemala in Abstract is an expressive abstract oil painting that reimagines the essence of one of Latin America’s most beloved colonial cities through bold color, emotion, and spontaneous brushwork. Rather than portraying the scene with realism, the artist uses dynamic strokes, impasto texture, and vivid contrasts to convey the energy, history, and layered identity of Antigua Guatemala.
Influenced by abstract expressionism, this piece captures not only the visual impression of the famous Santa Catalina Arch and surrounding streets, but also the emotional landscape that pulses through its architecture, culture, and people. Drips, distortions, and vibrant pigments evoke the passage of time, the richness of tradition, and the unpredictability of life within the city’s walls.
This is not a literal portrait—it’s a sensory experience of Antigua transformed into color and movement. A powerful work for collectors who value expressive abstraction rooted in cultural identity.
