As a professional builder known as Matt Kustra, specializing in creating models using LEGO® brick, I decided to embark on a journey of creating artwork for my own home. These pieces were particularly special to me as they allowed me to share what resides within my imagination. It was the first time I built what I truly desired. The portraits received such a warm reception that I made the decision to showcase them in art galleries.
The work was inspired by various aspects of life and emotions that surround me. In creating these artworks, I aimed to evoke strong reactions and contemplation in the viewers. I hope that those who lay their eyes on these pieces feel inspired, enchanted, and stirred to deeper thoughts. I want the works to stimulate imagination and encourage exploration of various interpretations and emotions.
The choice of LEGO® bricks as the medium stems from my passion for building and exploring creative possibilities. LEGO® bricks provide me with unlimited avenues of creation, as well as an element of playfulness and nostalgia. By combining these colorful bricks with mosaic techniques, I create unique artworks that blend elements of abstraction, emotion, and intricate details.
The subject matter of portraiture was chosen due to my fascination with human emotions and relationships. By creating the face of a woman in an abstract manner, I sought to explore various aspects of human nature and express them through colorful spots and shapes. The abstract style also allows for freedom of interpretation and experiencing art in one's own way.
I believe that this series of LEGO® brick artworks will leave a lasting impression on viewers, immersing them in a world of creativity and uncovering new perspectives.
