SUI MIEI DIPINTI
I figurativi.
ON MY PAINTINGS
My work is conceived for an immediate reading. Often my acephalous female figures have caused accusations to me. I think it is absurd, watching my paintings, immagine that I think the women lacking in brain. In the first place because my figures are essentially "human", often compenetrate of characteristic elements of both sexes, and above all because they, undressed of whichever social connotation or "contingent", they do not grant one "moral" reading of second level null. It would be like saying that they are feminist because I paint woman figures mostly, that it would not have sense. For centuries the vision of the beauty, and the artistic personality of the painters is gone around their way to represent the feminine virtues. I behave in the same way, conscious of the only partial outdataness of this speech. Because even if the centuries are pass to you and the times change to you, science and technique have still not succeeded to invent something that exceeds in beauty the body of one woman. To the maximum they have created something that the somiglia or that can work in a similar way, like the automobile, delegating to these new means to represent the personality (aesthetic and not) and the character of the age which they belong. Personally I try to make the same one. My figures would want to be to a handbook of anatomy like a race car is to a saloon one. In that I feel myself very more similar to a car designer or to a mobile telephony one, than to an other painter. We live in an age measured in terms of economy and speed, so to three lines I prefer a single one, fast and curved preferably, which at the end losts itself in the space that encircles it (and very they come, therefore, the comparisons with the Boccioni of italian/euro 20 cent!). The value of a picture can be measured with several parameters. One is the capacity of contained truth from the work. An other is its force of seduction, quality that can cohabit in the limits of before or not, making game, transformation, ulterior representation. In my style I try to join the synthetic use of the curve lines to the concentration on all that that is necessary to the figure in order to communicate my aesthetic vision and nothing more. The attention does not have to be dispersed. Therefore I try to load my figures with one strongly tension, acting on the positions, the proportions and the equilibrium. The "tension" becomes a concept that joins intelligence to eros, and in this I believe that reside the seduction attitude of my paintings.
ON THE FIGURATIVE PAINTING
Between the first and the second world war the maturation of the contemporary age has been consumed. The world is changed, comunismo and european totalitarianisms were born, while the United states are thrown on the international scene, strong of an incredible economic wealth and the overhong of their young age. Both of these two factors carry to the "black thursday", but also to the role that then since that moment in the States will play as artistic purchaser and buyer. Innovative, revolutionary ideas, often in a completely different way than Europe, push the rich collectors Americans to bet on the new ways to make Art (just when nazism will fill up the States of Dadaists and Co). A revolutionary and desecrating idea comes quickly exceeded from an other more radical anchor, and then from an other. And in men that it is not said, in one manciata of years, more than than decades, the figurative painting is not worthier than to fregiarsi of the "A "capital. The Art (that one that remains on the history books) by now, is elsewhere practiced with shapes, contained and always new contexts. The figurative painting, after millenia of history, continues to being practiced, but from aesthetic protagonist of (the still fresh pages of the philosopher on the boots of Van Gogh) is declassed like worthy inattuale goods of the country public squares. But painting is indeed unable to tell the age in which we live? In the '200 shovels of Duccio they came escorted from an immense crowd from the house of the artist to the church, a crowd that represented the whole society and the whole age. Where we can find in the '70 a such immense crowd? Bewitched in front of Mario Merz neons? But who really knows in Italy Mario Merz, except his neighbors and those few people who read of art? But if you speak about Guttuso to a baker, a newspaper vendor, a caretaker, the speech changes. And not only for the subjects of gossips about this famous painter. 50% of them would recognize a Guttuso picture, a lot of people knows his style, because it is clear, obvious, in a word "communicative" like the conceptual art never has menage to be. You can read Sandro Chia's answer to who asked him what had pushed Chia to the painting after an intense period of militancy in conceptual art. "Towards the half of the seventy an empty one had been created that gasped is filled up; the conceptual art had been transformed in mere academy obsessed to the idea to experiment at all costs and therefore the artistic activity was to levels little more than an amateur one. The little and poor galleries exclusively exposed american artists works and the Italian artists served in order to overwhelm the free spaces between an extension and the other like in order demonstrating that the only possible art was that one generated from the american collages. In spite of this situation of bottom that showed all its weakness and its disarming trouble, we were full of desire to practice the art and our being artists had to realize itself for to be such. (...) The search founded itself on a deep intolerance encircled from an empty one that asked for being fertilized from a new job. Our extreme mental opening and our spirit of curiosity, as of my own than collective, made to re-emerge the virus of the painting". In the course of the time the figurative painting is remained only a virus in the market of the Art's organism. But people still hang pictures in their home, and the most appreciate and famous painters remain the old ones. The figured ones. Perhaps it’s better stop to blame ourselfes of being figured painters and recognize to this painting the potentialities that it has and always will have.
