For this painting, I was inspired by two works by two great artists whom I deeply admire: Weeping Woman painted by Picasso in 1937 and Princess de Broglie painted by Ingres between 1851 and 1853 — a meeting between classicism and the avant-garde. The central figure evokes the aristocratic features of the 19th century through her composure and refinement. However, the face — and to some extent, the hands — completely break away from this tradition; it is a true rupture, a cry that suddenly reveals itself, tearing through the cage of convention. The carefully rendered dress, rich in realistic details and folds, represents appearance, tradition, and social role, while the face expresses a more chaotic and authentic inner world.

My name is Massimo Cirrone. I was born in Palermo on March 6, 1966, and I have always been drawn to the expressive power of art. After completing classical high school, I graduated in architecture, a profession I pursued for several years before dedicating myself to teaching art and visual studies in schools.

Alongside my professional career, I have nurtured a passion for painting as a self-taught artist, experimenting with techniques such as oil, acrylic, and watercolor. Color is the beating heart of my artistic exploration: I am fascinated by its ability to evoke deep and contrasting emotions, much like reality itself, which oscillates between wonder and tragedy.

In recent years, I have exhibited my works in various art galleries, participating in collective exhibitions both in Palermo and Paris (at Josephine Bonì Galerie d'art, 25 Rue des Grands-Augustins), and more recently in the watercolor exhibition “Industrial Archaeology” at the Museo delle Officine del Gas in Palermo.

Through this online space, I wish to share my artistic vision and offer original paintings that speak directly to the soul of the viewer.

Just around the corner, there is enchantment — and there is destroy.
