Любовь Самойлова
My love of art was formed at an early age. My father amassed a good collection of art cards and albums. From the age of 5 I was introduced to artists such as Degas, Rembrandt, Renoir, Levitan and many others.
My family was convinced that I had an aptitude for the exact sciences (it was in fact true), so I did not develop my artistic inclinations.
After school I entered a technical college. At the institute, as an elective in descriptive geometry we were taught the basics of drawing and composition. These seminars were conducted by a talented Chelyabinsk architect.
These seminars fascinated me, I learned how to convey the volume of simple objects.
I went to the Chelyabinsk Art School at a mature age, on a paid course for adults.
I started oil painting not long ago, when I retired. I had the time to do something that has fascinated me since I was a child. But I didn't have the opportunity.
Oil painting has opened up new horizons for me. And now I paint occasionally in acrylics and pastels. Pastel is my second favorite medium after oil.
There are many styles in painting, but I have two that I can't choose between. And I do not want to.
I love the nature of our Ural. But the sea and mountains also attract me. Recently I started painting seascapes. But not too realistically, I fantasize a bit.
Before the pandemic, I travelled not only to Russia but also to other countries. Every impression, every memory, at least in a small piece, is fused into my paintings.
I love Impressionism and Realism. I often don't know which to prefer. That's why my paintings don't follow one style clearly. Sometimes I start painting in a strictly realistic manner, but then suddenly I have a dab hand in my hand and I forget about realism.
However, most of my landscapes are impressionistic and my still life paintings are realistic. I don't know why this happens. I think my intuition knows better where to lead me in painting.
In September 2021 my personal exhibition "Mosaic of Impressions" was held in the showroom of Chelyabinsk Regional Court Museum.
Before that I placed the works on the Russian and foreign Internet resources, including English online gallery ARTFINDER.
Some of my paintings are in private collections in Russia, the United States, Britain and Israel.

It's my birthday - presents for you!
Water faucet - Collection "Things that have aged"
These old brass taps still survive in some places. I haven't seen them in the city, of course. But in private gardens, near suburban cottages, there are such taps on water pipes. And they still work well. There was probably less talk about protecting nature in the past, but more done for nature. Things were more durable and of higher quality. They lasted longer. That's the benefit for the environment.
And I have some old taps at home. My husband is a very hoarder. For him, throwing out an old switch, electrical wire or piece of plumbing is like death.
Things that have aged
I took a break from the city noise and the heavy, car-saturated air at the beginning of summer. A whole month of living in the countryside. And not just out of town, but in a wooded area by a beautiful lake. Our region has had many sanatoriums and rests homes from the time of socialism. I will not recollect and take apart the negative features of those times. But there were many recreational facilities, inexpensive for working people. There were both therapeutic procedures and simple recreation by nature. Some such sanatoria are still in operation today. Fortunately, you can get into such institutions with a doctor's referral and simply by buying a voucher.
And finally, in this beautiful pine forest, I realized my idea, to create a series of paintings, or perhaps one significant artwork, dedicated to old things.
So far, I've given this project the title "Things that have aged." I may change the title later. But I started to be attracted by things with a history. These are also personal things. For instance: handbags, boots, shoes. Old children's toys. Rusty locks and keys. I like phones with a dial. Even rusted garden watering cans and brass water taps. And old coffee mills are a special joy to me.
But I don't have a chance to set up a museum of vintage things, so I collect photos, get inspired, and write single sketch sketches.
So here I present to you my dismantling of "antiques ."Not for the sake of enrichment. But if you want to buy something, I'd be happy to.
I am reopening the shop
Dear friends, subscribers and customers!
I am reopening the shop. After selling a painting to the UK a month ago, I know for a fact that parcels from Russia reach their destination.
The time frame is, of course, extended as there are no direct flights. My picture went from the day of acceptance to UK customs for 30 days.
Therefore, if you desire to buy my painting, you can feel free to do so.
