... there is something iconically British about Trinity Lane in Cambridge - the narrow street with the picturesque slow lefthand bend and tall towering building topped by wooden fireplace chimney - I waited for almost one half hour for the street to fully clear but it never occurred - cars and people were continually and annoyingly buzzing down the lane - shot after shot was ruined by the intrusion of someone just as the shutter button was depressed - suddenly this poshly dressed Cambridge student rode by in his traditional bicycle and I clicked this view - my only concern was with the other seven people also in the shot - how often does this occur to photographers - if only but for that exasperation - thoroughly discontent - I intended to return another day earlier in the morning to capture the street empty but alas it never happened so I was stuck with what I had - if only I could remove them from this picture - for some reason and making their inclusion far far worse - at least four of the people were dressed in outlandish bright neon coloured clothes that amplified their presence in the picture - what to do - I came up with the solution as you see - to simply fade them into silhouettes save our timeless cyclist with his red backlight ... I like the effect as it now transforms the shot in time to quite possibly another bygone era suitable to the stately old buildings that line her throughfare ... if you look closely in the upper edge of the near building on the lefthand side of the lane - you can see a gargoyle perched high above looking down on our brave cyclist ...
