Artist Vision Statement
Twelve years ago I began using watercolour due to the tranlucence of the medium’s colours. A few years later I desired to be bold and feel the movement of the paint. Oils were the answer.
My initial interests in colour and form lead me to photography where I discovered that a fleeting scene could catch and hold my attention with its beauty, perfect balance, luminosity, intensity or human connection. As a photographer and as a fine artist, my goal is to capture these sublime visions. I paint from direct observation, immersing myself in the subject. My brush records the form, the light, the shadow and the colour. I paint rapidly because moments are fleeting: light changes in a landscape; figures move imperceptibly.
I work quickly, extracting only the essential, avoiding details, keeping it fresh, loose, vibrant.
With an unbiased mind, instinctively . . . . . . I just paint.
Painting is a form of meditation, releasing me into a spiritual state of mind
