I've heard people say that "art imitates life". But I've never really understood what that means. Perhaps it means that art takes life's struggles and glories and makes them into a sculpture or a painting, a painting we can look at later when time allows. I don't know.
My small comical people love and live, in their small comical communities. Heroic or defeated, lost or leading, their little lives are not so far from ours. For many, the picture of modern society has become a sketch gone wrong, a strangely proportioned and oddly shaped characature of itself. Not what it should be in a pure and clean form.
Politicians, mainstream media, public institutions have all become cartoon versions of themselves, not what they should be in their pure and clean form.
My little stick people and gently humorous creatures suggest that reality and fantasy are not so far apart. And if we are not ever watchful and ever careful, our lives can quickly become no more than a cartoon, which the last few years has made very clear to those watching.
With all that said and done, my small happy creatures want you to know they are heroic in outlook and figures of inspiration - with no possibilty of defeat.
Does art imitate life or does life imitate art. Does it matter.
