Laurie MacMillan is a self-taught artist who came to painting after
successful careers in real estate development, travel writing and
destination management. A hiker and rock fancier, she learned to
love gardening as well, after her home burned down in a wildfire.
Slowly, she realized that her interests in geology and plant life
were about the same thing, the inevitability of change, in nature and
in life.
Laurie’s abstract paintings are based on nature. She usually
begins with dark areas and lines, and a color scheme. From there her
paintings develop, layer upon layer, until she feels they are complete
and offer something of beauty. She strives for movement in the
painting, or a sense of place.
Winner of the Art’s Fund’s prestigious 2008 Individual Artist
Award, Laurie has exhibited in over a hundred juried group exhibits
and numerous solo shows, and on several online sites. Her work is
in personal and business collections across the U.S., and in Canada
and England.
