Viktor Kobzev is an internationally renowed Russian artist. He was born in Sevastopol in1957 and his mother was also an artist while his father was a naval submarine officer. Viktor was also submarine officer until he retired from the Russian navy in 2002. Since then he has pursued his artistic career full-time.
Specialising in hand-engraving, Viktor etches all his own plates by hand and does every element of the paper preparation and printing manually. His work is held in the private collections of Francois Mitterand, Mikhail Gorbachev, Margaret Thatcher, and her Majesty the Queen of England. A number of his engravings are also on display in the Hermitage Museum in St.Petresburg.
Viktor has been to the North Pole three times - in submarines as naval officer and he travelled on board the "50 Let Pobedy" to the North Pole in 2008, but this time solely as an artist. Within the Russian art world he is known by his nickname "Tiubik" which means "tube of paint", or "paint pot".
