A seated figure making playful grimaces, a girl talking to another? The human body has always been a subject of art, at least in Western culture. From the expulsion from paradise and the bite of the apple of knowledge, which suddenly makes Adam and Eve aware of their nakedness, to the grand nude sculptures of ancient Greece, the rediscovery of nudity in the Renaissance, and up to contemporary nudes. The Sleeping Beauty series is a collection of gouache paintings on cardboard, executed with a coarse brush and strong brushstrokes. The depicted figures blur into almost abstract forms, or they are precisely composed of clearly defined color fields. The viewer's perspectives are borrowed from those of the freely moving camera in contemporary cinema.
