Il surrealismo è un movimento letterario e artistico apparso in Francia nel 1924, scritto da André Breton. Può essere tradotto come "sopra il realismo" o "più che reale". È un dettato di pensiero, dove la ragione e le preoccupazioni estetiche o morali devono essere cancellate. Per Breton il surrealismo è giustificato da un desiderio di emancipazione: liberando l'inconscio per riconciliarlo con il conscio, l'umanità potrà liberarsi dai vincoli imposti dalla logica e dalla ragione.
