Candlelit Sunset (2022) 绘画 由 Isobel Hamilton

I am Scottish, and emigrated to Nova Scotia with my husband in 2013, looking to escape city life and make a home in rural Nova Scotia. With my mother a dressmaker and artist, and my father a mathematician, I excelled in both art and science when meant I struggled to find a career path. As with many, art was not presented as a career option, so at first I studied film at Napier University in Edinburgh. Several years later I returned to education to study forensic science and embarked on a career as a fingerprint expert. Also I won a national award and completed an MPhil, it proved not to be the career for me. Throughout all of this journey I kept painting, and once in Nova Scotia began to consider art as a real career option. My first solo show in Halifax in 2019 was well-received, and gave me the boost to make art my focus. I am self-taught and paint in both acrylic and oils. My focus is on timeless subject matter, particularly still life, and capturing light in a photorealistic style.
