These landscapes were painted in the open air in Italy, in a small town on the Adriatic Sea called Lido di Spina. We chose a picturesque place on the map of Italy and came there to paint in the open air. We lived in the street named after Leonardo da Vinci, surrounded by the streets of Giotto, Titian, Tintoretto, Caravaggio, and Piero Della Francesca. Lido di Spina is the southernmost resort of the province of Comacchio, a place created for a leisurely pacifying vacation surrounded by beautiful landscapes. Here, cosy streets have quite a wealth of green pines. Time passes slowly in their shades, so you can rest your body and your heart. I was especially fascinated by huge Italian pines with their picturesque furry crowns looking like giant umbrellas. I heard that it was a pine that gave her name to Pinocchio, one of the favorite characters in children's fairy tales. They say that his curious long nose was made by Papa Carlo precisely from a pine branch... For me, pines are connected with my memories of the warm Italian sun, the clean salty sea, and the picturesque Italian nature.

Irina (Irene) Makarova was born in Moscow, Russia, and currently lives in London, UK.
Since 2005, she studied painting in the studio of the Russian artist Konstantin Kaufman.
