This artwork explores resistance against control and the arduous journey toward freedom.

At the center of the narrative is a winged figure — an angel — walking against the wind, facing a force greater than itself. Behind it loom dozens of cloud-like forms, each shaped like an eye. These all-seeing eyes cluster thickly on the left side of the composition, symbolizing oppressive surveillance, judgment, and the overwhelming societal gaze.

As the angel moves closer to the tree on the far right, the sky begins to clear — the eyes gradually thin out, suggesting a passage toward liberation. Yet the tree, glowing with ethereal light and veined with lightning, remains distant. It marks a threshold: a symbol of freedom and transformation, but also of the resistance one must endure to reach it.

The angel presses forward, unwavering, despite invisible forces pushing against it. The image captures the tension between submission and defiance, and leaves the outcome open to interpretation — will the figure reach its destination, or be consumed by the forces it resists?

This artwork stands out not only for its message but also for its unique physical form. Crafted in an irregular shape with torn, organic edges, the piece resembles a fragment of birch bark or ancient wood — the kind once used for sacred texts or forgotten messages. This evocative shape transforms the canvas into an object of memory, as if the scene itself were unearthed from a mythic past.

The textured surface was built by hand using the papier-mâché technique, creating a relief-like base that interacts richly with light and shadow. The primary medium is matte acrylic, providing depth and contrast, while the angelic figure was rendered with oil pastel to lend it a soft, glowing quality. Additional landscape elements — the stormy sky, the glowing tree, and the spectral clouds — were detailed with layers of dry pastel, oil pastel, and watercolor, creating a foggy, shifting atmosphere that reflects the instability within the story itself.
