Water is the subject that informs this encaustic abstract, one of the images of mine that are more about re-creating, rather than representing, a seascape. An aerial perspective, perhaps as the sea washing up on a white sand beach as seen from an airplane, or as photographed by a satellite, but what I've done, thanks to the nature of my materials, encaustic paint (highly-pigmented pharmaceutical-grade beeswax strengthen with damar resin), thermal energy, air current, the pigment weight of the individual chemicals that make each color, as well as the movement of the wax in a liquid state, manipulated by angle, carving, etc., is attempted to embody on the cradled panel, what the natural processes themselves have created. So there are waves of molten wax (now solid), pigment in suspension, light refracted and reflected, and "foam" blown into form (powdered metallic pigments), and so on. The resulting image is far more complex and intricate than at first glance, and I like that, like all the visual information that's encoded in what seems to be a simple image, but that is, rather, deceptively simple. Signed and dated on the back, this work ships with a digitally-registered Certificate of Authenticity. Painted on 24x24x2.5 in (61x61x6.4 cm) birch wood cradled panel, the sides are painted a harmonious deep turquoise, so this is ready to hang.
