With this intriguing figure before me, I decided to design a skin texture that mimics the natural camouflage developed by certain insects, reptiles, and other animals on our planet to blend into their surroundings—as if it were an evolutionary adaptation of this being on its own planet.
To achieve this, I used four different textures: a wooden blind, a banana plant trunk, a wooden door, and a stack of basalt blocks cut into sections.
While working, every adjustment to the blending modes or the duplication of a layer revealed stunning new possibilities to bring this creature’s crypsis to life. I selected the four variations I liked the most, but I’m certain I’ll revisit this project and experiment with new possible skins for this mysterious being.

La fotografía y el dibujo eran mis hobbies preferidos y desde fines de los 80 he estado tocando en varias bandas de rock locales.
En 1995 comencé a trabajar como video editor y camarógrafo, lo que hice hasta octubre de 2023, cuando perdí el empleo. Durante esos años, por falta de tiempo, dejé el dibujo y la fotografía a un lado, y la música fue mi válvula de escape. A pesar de ello, era muy normal que en ratos libres entre un trabajo y otro me dedicara a manipular imágenes en el PC, usando filtros, texturas, ruido, deformaciones, etc., hasta que las mismas quedaran irreconocibles, casi (o totalmente) abstractas.
A medida que la calidad de las imágenes de las cámaras fotográficas y de video digital iba mejorando con el paso de los años, fui desarrollando una especie de obsesión por la degradación de las mismas, por quitarles nitidez, dejarlas más sucias, deterioradas, más "analógicas", por así decirlo. Y las texturas comenzaron a jugar un papel crucial en esos trabajos, principalmente las llamadas texturas "grunge". Este último año me vi dedicándole cada vez más tiempo a esta actividad, que yo catalogaría como una especie de "arte digital con insumos analógicos", ya que son fotografías intervenidas con texturas, y, a menudo, texturas intervenidas con más texturas.
Tengo un sitio web donde mantengo un blog en el que cuento un poco cómo fue el proceso de cada trabajo que comparto allí y en mis redes sociales.
