Chili

Gabriela always needs more greys, more shade. If only to represent just a fragment of a totality that might otherwise cease to exist outside of this minimal space. At times she may be expressing a single gesture, a circumstance, or maybe the pure acceptance of chance. Her copper plates are immersed again and again in sulphate and mordant dyes as they seek to express the knowledge of time and alchemy – the same which converts the metal into organic textures that transform into bodies, flesh and improbable colours. Her drypoint is fine and violent. Gabriela’s work is often dense too, requiring an alert gaze to experience its immersive tidal qualities.

STUDIES

1975-1979: Textile Design, Stamping Speciality. University of Chile, Santiago.

1988-1992: BA in Fine Arts in the Field of Printing. Catholic University of Chile.

2004-2006: Postitle in Conservation and Restoration of Cultural Properties. University of Chile.
