In "Broken," I wanted to explore the concept of perception—how things might not always be as they seem. This triptych is a journey into the human psyche, reflecting emotions and realities that are often layered and multifaceted. Each piece tells its own story but together forms a cohesive narrative that delves into vulnerability, identity, and resilience.

The first piece in the series, "Carnival of Shadows," is vibrant, almost festive, but there’s a tension that underlies the glamour. The central figure’s costume, with its bold colors and ornate mask, is meant to captivate and distract. But if you look closely, you might notice her gaze. Is she truly part of the joy, or is she hiding behind a facade? The Venetian carnival backdrop plays into this duality - a place where beauty and mystery intertwine, yet where shadows linger beneath the surface. I wanted viewers to feel the allure of the outward display but question the emotions hidden within.

In the second piece, "The Golden Mask," the tone shifts. Here, the figure confronts herself, holding a mask as though examining it for the first time. The birdcage in the background is an echo of what’s to come in the third piece - a foreshadowing of entrapment or perhaps freedom. The golden mask symbolizes identity and the roles we play. Is she removing it, or is she about to wear it? The ambiguity is deliberate because life rarely gives us clear answers. This piece inspires moments of self-reflection, those times when we stand at a crossroads between who we are and who we want to be.

The final piece, "The Caged Voice," brings the narrative full circle. The figure is now trapped within a birdcage, yet she appears to be singing. Is this a lament, or is it an act of defiance? I wanted to capture the paradox of feeling constrained while still finding a way to express oneself. The cage represents societal or personal limitations, but her posture and expression suggest resilience - a refusal to let her spirit be entirely contained. The muted tones of this piece contrast with the vibrancy of "Carnival of Shadows," emphasizing the transition from outward performance to inner truth.

As a whole, "Broken" is not about despair but about the complexity of being human. Each piece represents a layer of the self: the external persona, the inner dialogue, and the struggle between them. While the series might seem to progress from freedom to captivity, I see it as an invitation to reinterpret what "brokenness" means. Perhaps it’s in the breaking that we find our true selves.

My hope is that "Broken" resonates differently with each viewer. Maybe you’ll see yourself in the glamour of "Carnival of Shadows," the introspection of "The Golden Mask," or the resilience of "The Caged Voice." And maybe, you’ll find that the journey is as meaningful as the destination.
