Because New Zealand has only had a European influence for 150 years or so, most early buildings were built of wood and therefore rotted away. What is left is becoming treasured finally.

Because New Zealand has only had a European influence for 150 years or so, most early buildings were built of wood and therefore rotted away. What is left is becoming treasured finally.
Murchison is a tiny isolated town. My painting is the reflection seen from the original stables and overnight resting place for weary travelers, when roads were unformed and terrain mountainous.
The reflection comes forward in time to the old Hotel which now serves cold beer and great fish and chips along our main highway to Christchurch or the West Coast.
My urge was to describe with my paint, layers of peeling paint on the old native timber window and capture a bit of history.
