What made you decide to become an artist? What is your background?
The desire to capture the images that came before my eyes.
What are the three things that make you different from other artists?
1) I don't like to stand out 2) I think painting is like sowing in a field 3) I like to share what I know.
Where does your inspiration come from?
From being alive...there is always something I know how to do...when you walk in the street, plants that are not necessarily beautiful, when you see animals resting like stray dogs...also objects inspire me a lot (dolls, old jars), because I can relate them to circumstances, religion and politics.
Tell us about the conception of your works, do you have a long preparation work or is it quite spontaneous?
To make my artwork, my process is at first a lot of observation, reflection, some sketches and when I feel that the time comes the execution begins in a very frantic way.
What do you want to show through your work?
That we all have fears and hopes.
In your work do you use techniques or materials out of the ordinary?
For many years I painted with oils, but I began to feel that they were stagnating...I have started to try acrylics and charcoal.
What difficulties do you encounter in your work?
Editing and publishing
How do you work? At home, in a shared workshop, in your own workshop?
I have my own workshop at home...and in my work.
Does the work of an artist lead you to travel a lot?
Not in my case...because I am a teacher in a school.
What was the best moment of your career?
I think all the moments are and have been good.
How do you see your work in ten years?
My work in ten years will be more spontaneous, without restrictions or limitations because I have left my comfort zone (oil painting) and the freedom of drawing and acrylics I think will lead me to something.
What are you currently working on? Are you planning an exhibition soon?
I am painting series in parallel, on the one hand objects related to politics, a series on beds of a former saltpeter, a series of landscapes of my city and a series of cactus that are in my way work-home.
If you could create one masterpiece in the history of art, which one would you choose?
Definitely Guernica.
If you could invite a famous artist to dinner (dead or alive), which one would you choose?
Picasso
