Thaddaeus Ropac moves to Milan: a new chapter for the Italian art scene
The prestigious Thaddaeus Ropac gallery is set to open its seventh contemporary art space in Milan, Italy. Nestled in the historic Palazzo Belgioioso, famous for its neoclassical architecture, this new gallery promises to become a must-visit for art lovers and collectors. Located just an eight-minute walk from the Duomo di Milano, it is ideally located to attract both local and international audiences.
Directed by Elena Bonanno di Linguaglossa, with nearly 25 years of experience in modern and contemporary art, the gallery will occupy the first floor of the palace and will have two large exhibition rooms, as well as a public space dedicated to sculptures. True to the mission of the Ropac house, the program will highlight artists who have already left their mark on the Milanese scene with notable exhibitions, while serving as a springboard for new talents.
Milan is increasingly establishing itself as a major hub of the European art market. Many collectors and galleries have taken up residence there, and the opening of Thaddaeus Ropac in the Lombardy capital enriches an already vibrant art scene. The boom in the Italian art market, with sales reaching €600 million in 2023 (an increase of 7% compared to 2022), is a testament to the ambient dynamism.
Ropac, which already has galleries in London, Paris, Salzburg and Seoul, is thus continuing its international expansion. By inaugurating this new space in the fall of 2025, it confirms its desire to strengthen its presence in Europe and Asia. The exhibitions previously organized in Milan by the gallery – notably those highlighting Oliver Beer, Valie Export or Donald Judd in emblematic locations such as the Palazzo Reale and the Fondazione Prada – already announce the demanding and innovative nature of this new chapter.
