Through the plains, the mountains, and the Ukrainian cities, a train like no other travels the rails. Its name: Courage of a Nation. Its mission: to tell, through images, the story of a people standing tall in the face of war.

Key points to remember:

  • A mobile museum: three train cars converted into immersive galleries.

  • A committed exhibition: photographs by Howard G. Buffett on Ukrainian resilience.

  • Free and traveling: 63 stations crossed in four months, throughout the country.

  • A strong message: art as a tool of memory and cultural resistance.

  • International support: project supported by the Howard G. Buffett Foundation.

Art on board: a traveling museum on the rails

Since June 2025, Ukraine has been hosting a traveling exhibition of a unique kind. Three specially arranged train cars house a series of poignant photographs, captured during the war. This project, born from the collaboration between the Ukrainian Railways (Ukrzaliznytsia) and the Howard G. Buffett Foundation, aims to testify to the resilience of the Ukrainian people.

Howard G. Buffett, American philanthropist and photographer, has visited Ukraine 19 times since the Russian invasion in 2022. Through his lens, he has documented not only the destruction but also the bursts of hope, gestures of solidarity, and faces of resistance. His photographic series forms the heart of the exhibition, titled Courage of a Nation.

An immersive scenography accessible to all

The exhibition is not limited to images: each car is designed as an immersive experience. Carefully studied lighting, sound ambiance, explanatory texts in several languages... everything contributes to creating an atmosphere of reflection, but also of collective strength.

The project is entirely free and open to everyone. The train plans to stop at 63 stations across the country over four months. For security reasons, the detailed itinerary is kept confidential. This mobile museum is thus both an artistic act, a tool of memory, and a symbol of resistance.

A project born from deep commitment

The selection of images was entrusted to photographer Muhammed Muheisen, a two-time Pulitzer Prize winner. With sensitivity, he ensured to capture the complexity of the situations encountered: ruins, smiles, gestures of care, rushes to shelters... all fragments of a reality disrupted, but never broken.

Howard Buffett, for his part, considers this project as an extension of his active support for Ukraine. Since 2022, his foundation has invested hundreds of millions of dollars in humanitarian aid, agricultural reconstruction, and critical infrastructure in the country.
