French painter, Emerich Meerson was born in Berlin.
After a childhood in Bulgaria where he studied the art of drawing very early on, he returned to France and became a world-renowned jewelry and watch designer.
In the 70s and 80s he was recognized as one of the most gifted designers of his time and was exhibited in the USA, Europe, Japan, Hong Kong and Singapore.
This international recognition will never prevent him from devoting, in parallel, every day, a precious time to drawing and painting and in 1992 he decides to dedicate himself exclusively to his art.
Since 2005, he has lived in Boulogne-Billancourt where he finds serenity and inspiration allowing him a prolific and constantly renewed creation.
To date, we can distinguish 3 periods in the exercise of his creativity: first of all, his drawings in countless travel diaries or daily observations, then the deepening of a mixed technique (Indian ink, pastels, gouache, colored pencil) on rag paper and finally the execution of a considerable and abundant work of oils on canvas.
He is at the origin of the concept of “Active Abstraction”.
“On each of my finished canvases I want to see a certain harmony. Finding the truth, making something felt.
On the other hand, I, personally, disappear. That's why I always sign on the back of the work.
Inspiration comes from my soul, from my feeling in the moment, from the events I hear about.
I believe that it is in this, by what I call an "active abstraction", that my painting is distinguished. »
