Ellen Shire

Ellen Shire is a former dancer with The New York City Ballet, a published author/illustrator of children's books and an artist who has exhibited extensively in the United States and Europe.
Her early and great influence was Mark Rothko.
"As with Balanchine Ballets and the works of Rothko, Richard Diebenkorn and Franz Kline, I have always been drawn to the abstract. Without the defined, literal image one touches emotions that are inexplicable but profound; visual music."
