The olive tree has always represented this land, its history, its culture, its economy.
The “capasone” (from the Apulian dialect term “capase”, meaning capable, roomy) is a yellow ochre or yellow-brown clay container, formerly used to contain liquids, in particular olive oil and wine.
This object, linked to tradition and peasant life, is the protagonist of the work. Lying down, it pours a trickle of oil (represented by the LED light) that transforms into a luminous figure: an epitaph on a mound of barren earth.
I made the sculpture in wire mesh and recycled paper.
The LED was created by my son, Alessandro Ianne.
The work was exhibited in June 2023 at the Torre Costiera di San Tommaso in Torre Lapillo, Porto Cesareo (Lecce) on the occasion of my solo exhibition entitled IDENTITY AND WASTE - Mediterranean, environment and human rights in the waste society.
All the works in the exhibition were made with waste or recycled material.

Chiara Criniti graduated in Set Design at the Academy of Fine Arts in Lecce.
She initially worked as a children illustrator, but gradually shifted her focus to editorial illustration, and since 2017, also to personal artistic work.
Psychology and imperfection of human beings are the central themes of her artistic research. Her work focuses on the relationship between conceptual essence and symbol, and the result is a clear and synthetic narration.
The use of vibrant colors and bold contrasts, alongside the mélange of various media (acrylic, pastels, graphite, monotype, collage) enable the artist to create a complex world where reality coexists with metaphorical elements, the surreal and psychological; a world that can be interpreted in a variety of levels. The papers and supports used are often scraps, leftovers, old packaging. Chiara composes complex textures, stratified through an impulsive and necessary gesture that is accomplished in the use of collage. The imperfection of the sign underlines this urgency.
