Before being painted, each canvas is first covered with original, vintage manga pages, weaving a hidden background story. The selected manga collages often depict exaggerated, caricatured male representations that convey machismo and reinforce ideals of masculine strength—frequently at the expense of sensitivity and human complexity.

In Céline Masson’s exhibition, these two elements are brought into confrontation.

Phuket based French self-taught artist, Celine Masson, has been honing her skills in the land of Smiles for the past several years.
After so many years living in Asia, Celine has a deep and genuineappreciation for the inherent beauty of people and culture of Asia.

Her paintings are a lighthearted perspective on the stereotype of Asian
women.
The collection “Beauties of Shadows” draws inspiration from Asian female faces juxtaposed with the exposure of women in Asian society. Before painting, each canvas is covered with original Japanese manga cartoons.

women portrayed against a subtle background of vintage imagery.
Each painting is playful with strong, bold colors that bring each image
