Niagra falls cascade down in columns onto the rocks below in front of the orange and yellow hues of autumn on the horizon. The falls are on the American Side taken from the Canadian side point of view.
All paintings in this series are based on my own photo reference and sketches while traveling the world. The experience and memory of being there plays an important part in the emotive qualities of the piece. These memories, sketches, and photo reference come together when creating the final painting in the studio.
Painted on Arches watercolor paper with professional grade watercolors such as Windsor and Newton, Schinmke, Daniel Smith and Holbein.
Image size is 18”w x 12”h

The theme of my Watercolour Galleries is “Art of A Natural Kind”
All of my subject matter are just that, Art of A Natural Kind. Landscapes, seascapes, and wildlife are what embodies earth. My works are intended to inspire others to appreciate all that nature has to offer. To think about a beautiful world and inspire to be kind to the planet. This collections spans the globe featuring beautiful locations from Southeast Asia to Canada, where the artist has traveled, sketched, photgraphed, and ultimately painted.

Inspired by my uncle John Wilson, an artist and sign painter, I began drawing at a young age. In grade six I became a professional artist of sorts by selling my classmates drawings of hockey goalies for the princely sum of 25 cents. Later on I graduated from The Alberta College of Art in Calgary, Canada. My first job out of school was courtroom sketches for a TV station and then on to Art Director for an Ad Agency before freelancing as a Designer and Illustrator using watercolours, sometimes with pen and ink.
Applying my experience and skills as an illustrator has served as a valuable bridge to fine art where I have explored land and seascapes with watercolours. It has been a visual documentation of my journies within Canada as well as the other side of the world in Southeast Asia where I have roamed, photographed, sketched, and painted to escape the cold winters of Canada.
When traveling in an unfamiliar place a person always comes across beautiful, unusual, and interesting things that capture your attention. I aim to create those fleeting moments with the immediacy and spontaniety that watercolours bring. The experience of being there plays an important underlying role in the paintings process. It may be a golden landscape, a rocky beach, or a beautiful lighthouse, regardless, all of my Seascapes and Landscapes are built with on-site sketches, photo reference I have captured myself, and memories of the experience itself.
Not only does land and sea capture my interest but all things in the natural world do as well. Animals, birds, reptiles, sea life. Watercolours are an ongoing process of never ending exploration, and it's twice as fun when it includes exploring the world.
