Born at a naval base in , Saseboe Japan in the early-sixties. The daughter of a Navy Sailor, I grew up traveling and living on or near military bases around the United States and the world. Early on, I was most influenced by the art and imagery found in nature. Drawing and painting every available moment of my childhood while experiencing the entire world as my backyard, I would work with any and all art mediums, pretty much any surface I could get my hands on.
I would have devoted my life to art at the point of my first memory- in spite of stubborn opposition from my father, who insisted that earning a living as an artist was absolutely impossible and a complete waste of time. But somehow striking out stubbornly on my own, at the ripe old age of 3 or 4 would have been a tough row to hoe! Instead I responded by working even harder to perfect each new drawing, hoping to earn my parent’s respect and approval. My mom always worried that placing such passion into my art would only bring a broken heart, followed by a wilted spirit in the end.
Moving all the time made the process that much more difficult, but I never gave up. Art is nothing less than a part of what makes me, “me”. Today I create art on about any surface, reflecting any subject, using multiple mediums. My method stems from my intrigue with the art of Mehndi - henna (I learned it on a trip to the Middle East in 2000), and my inherent artistic abilities. Using the repeated swirls, curves, circles and lines of Mehndi art – I incorporate them into my other style, (realism) and viola! – I marry, rather randomly, whimsy with real life and produce my special brand of art.
