In 2008, artist Anjalts began creating a 20-piece collection titled 'Gaia - The Spirit of the Earth', using a surreal mix of oil on canvas with 24k gold leafing, copper, and metallic elements. These striking large-scale paintings, hand-embellished with gold leaf, symbolize Gaia, the Greek mythological personification of the earth, the ancestral mother of life. The collection reflects the unexplained global environmental changes and presents multiple scenes, painted in rich, opulent shades with shimmering aftereffects. It visually narrates a story that began in 2008 and concluded in 2010. Drawing from years of poetry, paintings, and music by Anjalts, this deeply lyrical work offers a unique perspective on our evolving ecosystem.
"When we first discovered Anjalts, she was writing songs for various musical groups," recalls Acen Sinclair of IXOmusic. "She used different pen names for her songwriting. I was amazed by the music and asked her why she wasn’t releasing any of her own songs. She said she wasn’t sure if she had found her voice to tell her story properly."
Sinclair described Anjalts as a multi-talented artist, playing several instruments in her home studio while writing lyrics and painting extraordinary works of art. He also discovered large canvas paintings in her home, filled with gold and warm tones, surrounded by pages of poetry, revealing an immense but reclusive talent.
Anjalts’ artwork can be found online on various platforms, including her website anjalts.com. Her upcoming poetry book will feature pieces from her 'Gaia - Spirit of the Earth' collection.
