I grew up in England, where I studied fine art, particularly painting in oil, at the University of Newcastle in the 1990s, but then went on to study art history, and later worked for a London art auctioneer, before moving to Ireland around the year 2000. After that I became an art librarian but I still enjoy painting whenever I can find the time. I have always enjoyed painting architecture and I am influenced by many painting styles, but particularly impressionism (Monet, Caillebotte and Sisley, as well as John Singer Sargent and Sorolla). I also enjoy abstract expressionism such as Bomberg, Freud, de Kooning, Hoyland, etc. I very much enjoy using grey tones and colours and I am drawn instinctively to industrial architecture, partly because I am very interested in the industrial heritage of Britain and Ireland.
