My name is Alesya Shapsigova and I am a Circassian artist. I live and work in Rotterdam, NL. I am a qualified Fashion,Textile designer, Visual artist and Art tutor.
My international education and professional experiences across the USA, Canada, Russia, and Europe have profoundly influenced my artistic vision, inspiring new ideas and emotional depth in my work.I work with mixed media creating a layers of acrylic paints on canvas and collages. I create my Textile paintings using an old and modern art supplies (batik). I am focused on developing innovative textures, distinctive color combinations, and dynamic lines in my new artworks. My ongoing search involves reinterpreting traditional ethnic ornaments and symbols with a contemporary approach, aiming to transport viewers from their everyday experiences to a realm of imagination and creativity. I believe my customers deserve art that not only beautifies their spaces but perfectly resonates with their personal stories and emotions.

As an artist I have been influenced by global affairs, with people and their emotions serving as my primary sources of inspiration. I am dedicated to preserving the originality of the cultures of small nations, particularly those of the Caucasus. Through the eyes of a foreigner, I strive to view my own Circassian culture within the context of global trends, where individualism and uniqueness often struggle to find their place.
I am particularly drawn to traditional forms and ornaments, which I stylise and transform into “scripts” that reflect the collective memory of my people—imprints of the presence of ancestors who have endured the absorption of larger empires. my art is a bridge between the past and the present, celebrating the richness of cultural heritage while inviting viewers to engage with their own narratives. I am passionate about creating pieces that not only tell a story but also evoke a sense of belonging and connection in this ever-changing world.
