When painting a landscape, you will use colours to help bring the scene to life and convey the impression that it is a real place. You should use colours that closely match the hues, tones, and intensity of the real world to make your painting more believable, as well as ones that are subtle enough to help the scene “pop” off the canvas. When it comes to the latter, avoid painting with bright, intense colours or patterns that are overly noticeable, as this will draw attention to the painting itself and distract the viewer’s attention away from the scene. Using warm colours, such as reds and oranges, in your landscape painting will help it feel more inviting and cheerful, as well as more realistic. Using cool colours, such as blues, greens, and purples, will help convey a feeling of peace and tranquility, as well as make the scene appear more surreal. Influenced by the Chinese landscape painting, surrealism and North American folk art, the Brooklyn-born painter Albert Serino creates paintings of landscapes, still life and portraiture.

This painter considers his creative practice as an act of representation, but of transformation.

Albert Serino has attended the Massachusetts College of Art, from where he received his BFA in painting.

For over 12 years Serino has worked as an art director and as an instructor at the Institute of Fine Arts, New York University.

He has been painting full time since the 1990s. Furthermore, Serino conducts painting workshops and classes at painting out of his studio in Brooklyn.

Albert Serino is widely recognized as one of New York’s most important Plein air impressionist artists. He observes the nature ever-changing light of day, takes photos in order to paint them later.

Serino has presented his paintings in some of the most prestigious galleries in the United States and Canada.
