Ekaterina Tomilovskaya is a contemporary Russian painter, living between Vietnam, France, and her native Russia. Throughout her life, Ekaterina has been devoted to the art of drawing, taking classes and sketching consistently regardless of the circumstances. Her journey took an enriching turn when she was sent to France for work, experiencing a transformative year in Paris. Immersed in the cultural richness of the city, she explored museums, galleries, and continued her passion for drawing. A semester spent in Vietnam allowed her to encounter Asian art, inspiring her to blend different styles and showcase her work through exhibitions.
Upon her return from France in 2017, Ekaterina delved deeper into her artistic education. Eager to refine her skills, she embarked on a journey of learning academic drawing and oil painting. From October 2017 to May 2019, she dedicated herself to a comprehensive two-year professional retraining course in "Painting and Drawing" at the non-profit organization, the "Academic Center for Creativity, Entrepreneurship, and Law." This program featured esteemed teachers from the Moscow State Academy of Arts, V. I. Surikova.
Ekaterina's artistic passion is prominently influenced by impressionism and the Alla Prima style. Seeking inspiration in the mundane aspects of everyday life, the natural world, and ordinary people, she infuses her work with a unique perspective. Her dedication to her craft and diverse influences have made her a dynamic presence in the contemporary art scene.

“Coconut boats”, 40x40cm, Oil on canvas, 2024
“Traditional Vietnamese basket boats, locally known as “thung chai” – fishermen basket. The round boats appeared due to implementation of colonial French tax based on the standard boats elements: two sides, stern, keel etc. Nowadays the fishermen can install even engine on these boats. Still you have to be very skilled in navigating and paddling.”
“Rural life”, 45x50cm, Oil on canvas, 2024
“Tra Que small island is located in 4 km away from Hoi An Old Town, Vietnam. This is a beautifull and quiet place where you can watch local life. There is a farm of herbs and spices such as Shiso (in French Perille de Nankin) the leaves of which look like nettle and Thai Basil with citrus flavour.”
This is one of antique shops on the street of Hanoi. You can find many interesting things there from old vases, jewelry, figurines of all sizes, vietnamese lacquer paintings to contemporary artists works. While doing this painting I was offered an antique chair to sit comfortable. I decided to add the red plastic vietnamese chair for contrast, it's just my imagination.
The portrait was painted right on the street of Hanoi. It was a slightly extreme experience, as on the streets of Hanoi everything moves, beeps, rattles, growls, and smells of all sorts. Not to mention that the weather in April is already quite hot. Mr. Hieu Tran - The owner of the newly opened Artishan tea house is waiting for guests at the entrance to the establishment.
