Sureen Gouws

I am Sureen, an artist born in South Africa and now based in Brisbane, Australia, with a background in architecture. My sculptural relief art draws inspiration from my architectural expertise, infusing a unique artistic style into my creations. I work with soft monochrome colours to craft a serene and tranquil backdrop for the flowing lines in my artwork. The interplay of light and shadow fascinates me, and my pieces are designed to emphasize the captivating shadows formed by different shapes and compositions. Seeking a simplistic 'wabi-sabi' aesthetic, I blend clean lines with rough and imperfect tactile textures in my works.

Through my art, I aspire to create a sense of calm and focus, providing a personal 'Zen' space for both myself and those who view my art. In a world overwhelmed by stress and overstimulation, my aim is to restore balance, harmony, and tranquillity through a minimalist approach. I invite others to find solace and reset their minds when engaging with my pieces. The energy and symbolism of circle shapes hold great fascination for me, and my art embodies a zen, meditative, and minimalistic philosophy, channelling the essence of flowing energy and wholeness.
